31/ Camps 13

A camp with quite some shades.

Couch surfing BRC style.

Camp Westphallica had some very nice cots with shade. On my next year's list.

Snow Koan Camp with its large array which provides power to Nectar village and art projects.
For better efficiency, Mike is blowing the accumulated dust on the panels.

Stop by and leave your toys to recharge.

Nectar Village.

Playadome at Nectar village. I saw a lot less of them or they are such part of the fabric of BRC,
we don't see them anymore?

Steam Bath Project dome at Nectar Village.

Smarty Yurt at Camp Homepage: Human Powered Internet.

Do these colors have a Feng shui meaning?.

33/ Camps 15

Welcome to the hotel DPW,
Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice.

Tender Heckles Porch.
While approaching I realized that the sound bubble around me was coming from this talented fiddle player.

The Front Porch parked at its camp Empire of Dirt.

Camp Frosty with its water tank.
Built by the late Dan Donovan, it is hollowed out, lined with pillows and rotates 360 degrees.

Tiny house in the vicinity of the Metal Pods camp.

34/ Camps 16

Double decker variation of a geometry dome.

North Pole Party Shade. Great shade easy to setup and will sustain a heavy pounding.

About these Easy to setup shades, the jury is still out. Some camps are made entirely with them
and have a splendid burn. Others, keep the twisted remains of their unique shade in front of their car/last resort shade as a reminder to read this blog for next year preparation.

Van Brink/ Lerner Geometry Dome.
When I shoot this image, the camp next door was playing at full blast The Penis Song, that was totally hilarious, one of those surreal moments at BRC.

Simplicity.

35/ Tents 1

Hands down winner of full size tent, The Kodiak Flex-bow canvas tents.
A rare sight before, you could count hundreds of them this year.

Next Year Was Way Better.

Renaissance style for Camp Uli Baba and the Horny Thieves
Data

Renaissance style, notice the very large tarp on the ground to keep the dust level low and control MOOP.

Could we get some info about this lovely tent at Alternative Energy Zone Village ?

Gary, the owner left a comment: this tent from camp Jellyfish is a 1973 Moss Optimum 350 hand made by Bill Moss Tent Works Camden Main, one of 7-10 ever made.

Doing a little bit of research I realized that Bill Moss created the technology of 'Tensioned fabric" that we see everywhere - just look at the many Parawing catenary cut tarp - at BRC and also created the first "pop-up" tent that revolutionized camping. Take a look and more images.
This tents because of their hight quality of realization have a cult-like following.

With History of Gear, Bruce B. Johnson, tells the fascinating and intertwined stories of the modern camping gears makers, a must read for anyone interested in the outdoor gears.

36/ Tents 2

We saw fewer Teepees this year. We just wish to see more.

Sibley tents, one center pole with a large footprint. Always a standout.

These Bell Tents bring soul to the neighborhood.

Even better when it's colorful. We just love this bold statement.

37/ Tents 3

Military.

Camp Yum.

New School Military, look extremely efficient.

This tent was erected using a giant air bladder. See the image on the superb photostream of Aaron Muszalski who did a terrific job documenting the building of the city and the Man.

We don't like to promote small size tents because we think that it's not a comfortable solution for a week-long stay in the desert but we really like this way of dealing with the dust problem.

38/ Hexayurts 1

The Hexayurt is the shelter of choice at Black Rock City.
They come in evolving shapes with constant improvement.

More than a thousand were on the playa.

A landmark for several years

The entire team of This is Black Rock City blogspot is really interested in getting some testimonials.

39/ Hexayurts 2

The Man Cave.
It's uplifting to see more participants painting the panels even if it's lower slightly the insolation performances.

Pentayurts.
We fully support the growing trend of leaving the outside panels free of markings.

See.

40/ Monkey Huts

At Black Rock City, Monkey Huts are as ubiquitous as Sparkle Ponies, wherever you look at there is one. Cheap and easy to set-up  it's a burner favorite, among Domes and Hexayurts they define the BRC habitat.

Camp Just a Few More Blocks

Camp Pacific Northwest Burners

Sometimes, with very long MH, air circulation in midday might be problem.

It's always good to strap on your Monkey.

Because this one is a spineless model, the builders added these poles which had room to move with the ribs but still strengthening the entire structure when the wind blows.

You lasted until the end of page 4, it's almost over!
4 more pages and you will meet some citizens of BRC
